Our History
From Smithy to Meeting Place
Schmiede Ottikon is a place with character. Where people come together today, fire and iron were once at work. Across generations, this site produced tools, ideas — and values that are still tangible today.
Its roots reach far back: the farmhouse in Ottikon was built before 1812. In 1832 a freestanding nail forge was added, which was later converted into a smithy building. For decades it was a place of craftsmanship, forging and creation — until the smithy was eventually integrated into the main house, where it remained in operation for many years.
Even today, the building — protected as a heritage site — bears witness to its origins: the original roof truss in the seminar room, the historic “Alte Schmiede” lettering on the south façade, and finds from times past that still surface in the garden.
Over time, craftsmanship and society changed — but the smithy remained. Rather than slipping into obscurity, it was reimagined as a place of encounter.
Today, Schmiede Ottikon brings together tradition and transformation. The historic fabric of the building has been carefully preserved and complemented with modern elements. The result is a unique venue for workshops, retreats and offsite events — a space where ideas grow, people connect, and something new can emerge.
We look forward to welcoming you, too, at Schmiede Ottikon.
History & Ambiance
Historic ambiance meets modern technology
Schmiede Ottikon brings together the charm of times past with the demands of modern collaboration. Exposed wooden beams, natural materials and thoughtful details create a warm, inspiring atmosphere — complemented by contemporary infrastructure and flexible usage options.
Whether in the light-filled seminar room, in the garden house or in the workshop — each space unfolds its own character and opens up new perspectives for exchange, focus and creativity.
Outside, too, special moments unfold. The country garden invites you not only to linger but becomes an experience space in its own right — whether for outdoor workshops or shared activities that stay in memory.
Schmiede Ottikon is the ideal venue for companies that consciously seek distance from the everyday: for strategy days, workshops, retreats, team events, meetings or general assemblies.
Quietly located in the Zurich Oberland and just a few minutes from the Effretikon motorway exit, Schmiede Ottikon is quickly reachable — yet far enough away to let new ideas take shape.

Ronny Nietlisbach
Founder & CEO
For over two decades, I have been supporting companies, organizations and executives in developing their structures and processes. My journey began in traditional craftsmanship, where I learned how important precision, perseverance and reliability are. These experiences still form the foundation of my work today: practical, solution-oriented and always focused on sustainable impact. My focus areas are Lean Business Transformation, Process Optimization and Change Management. I am driven by the conviction that every company has potential that can be unlocked – through structured approaches, clear communication and the courage to take new paths. I see my role not just as a consultant, but as a partner at eye level who inspires, guides and provides impulses for sustainable development.
